KH NEWSLETTER – AUG 21 2010

So apparently XBOX 360 is coming out with a new karaoke game featuring the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.  It makes me think, if you like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music and you play Xbox 360 — WHO ARE YOU?!  By the way, have any of you tried out the new Facebook “check-in feature” which lets your friends see your current location?  Isn’t that sort of silly since if you are on Facebook, you are obviously at work!  Well, here is your sound bite version of this week’s music must-do’s:

August 21 – Sarah Jaffe @ TheHotel Café
You’ll be impressed by this ultimate indie girl who holds her own at The Hotel Café.

August 22 – John Mayer @Hollywood Bowl and Trevor Hall @ St. Rocke
The Hollywood Bowl is a wonderland, especially when John Mayer’s in town.  So, grab a picnic and listen to his music alfresco.  Down in the South Bay, our friend Trevor Hall will be taking over St. Rocke!

August 23 – Dave Matthews Band @Hollywood Bowl
Hollywood Bowl’s hot this week.  There is absolutely nothing better than open-air venues and DMB.  I mean, come on!  This is just too good of news.  You know where I’ll be…’nough said.

August 24 – Chris Isaak with Marc Broussard at the Greek, and Allie Moss @ The Hotel Cafe
One of our favorites, Southern rocker Marc Broussard opens for Chris Isaak at the Greek! If you want something more intimate, don’t miss the talented Allie Moss with Lauren Zettler.  Their transparent lyrics and creative musicare the best recipe for mid-week musical enjoyment.

August 25 – KOFFEEHOUSE AND APPLE PRESENT SAMANTHA STOLLENWERCK
Koffeehouse and Apple continue to showcase some of our favorite singer songwriters at the Apple Retail Store in August at the Third Street Promenade including Samantha Stollenweck on August 25 (and Caitlin Crosby on August 31). All showcases are FREE and start at 7:30PM.

August 25 – Norah Jones and Corinne Bailey Rae @ Greek Theatre and Jason Mraz @ Hollywood Bowl
So many choices, so little time.  Are you on Team Norah/Corinne or are you more of a Team Mraz kind of person?  Check out the amazing ladies at The Greek, or, for yet another amazing Hollywood Bowl summer concert, opt for Jason Mraz.

August 27 – CENTRAL OPEN HOUSE PARTY with live music from Koffeehouse
The old 14 Below is now CENTRAL, Santa Monica’s Newest Neighborhood Bar and Live Music Venue. We invite you to check out and experience CENTRAL’s Open House party next Friday, August 27, starting at 5PM! There will be live performances from Koffeehouse Music including an emerging star from Milwaukee JAYK (5:30PM), our friend NOAH NEEDLEMAN (6:30PM), John Clinebell and Ariana Hall’s new project GENUINE BRANDISH (7:30PM), Koffeehouse favorite SAMANTHA STOLLENWERCK (8:30PM) and introducing to our Koffeehouse community, JUST OFF TURNER (9:30PM). On August 29, The Goo Goo Dolls headline a show at the Greek with our friends Switchfoot and Green River Ordinance!  From start to finish, it will be an amazing night of music and we’ll be out there to support.  Get your tickets while you still can!
KOFFEEHOUSE/BMI SESSIONS AT HARVELLE’S WITH RACHAEL CANTU, AJ GIL, MOI and LA VIE ON SEPT 2nd
Join us on September 2, 2010 when Koffeehouse and BMI present their monthly “Koffeehouse Sessions” showcase at Harvelle’s Santa Monica. Featured artists include indie folk rock singer songwriter RACHAEL CANTU at 8:30PM, R&B/pop singer songwriter and American Idol alum AJ GIL (myspace.com/ajgil) at 9:30PM, funk/rock/soul crossover singersongwriter MOI and his band at 10:30PM and Venice-based rockers LA VIE at 11:30PM. From 6:30PM-8:30PM, Koffeehouse will have its JAM Session featuring some of LA’s most talented artists playing 2 song each including Penelope Fortier, Eleisha Eagle, Gerry Saint, Dani Nicole, Luis Narino, Lindsey Yung, Zosia, Joella Henson and other artists to be announced.
